I am a notoriously picky eater. I have a lot of foods that I don’t like mostly because of texture, but sometimes because of taste. There are few foods that I really love and could eat all the time. Pizza is one of them. And I generally despise condiments. I enjoy barbecue sauce and teriyaki sauce, but I can’t eat ketchup or mayonnaise or any salad dressing. The one thing that I am really addicted to though is hot sauce, well mostly Tapatio sauce. I could practically drink that stuff.
The problem is that I have GERD soΒ I can’t really have foods that are acidic or spicy. Hot sauce though is one of the few things that seems to wake up my senses and help me forget about the world. If I’m having a rough day or just feeling a little down, I can eat some hot sauce with a couple chips and it makes me feel so alive. I know it’s not good for me and will probably give me abdominal pain later, but the sense of feeling something so powerfully draws me to it anyway.
Is there anything that wakes up your senses and makes you feel alive?

My sons love to eat lemon! They don’t make a face like I would. Even though the can’t tell me I know they feel alive because they smile from ear to ear π

Have you tried probiotics? They help me enormously with a variety of tummy & reflux issues. After years of trying “health food store” ones, I have found “Align” from the drug store helps the most. But eating probiotic FOOD is good too (sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir [can be non-dairy]). That’s just our experience and I am not a doctor, well, not a MEDICAL dr…

That kind of stuff helps a bit, but it’s worse than regular reflux issues. Keeping my diet low in oil and acidity is the only thing that really works for me. But if I get a little too much acidity I’ll take some antacids or probiotics and they’ll help with the pain.

As I age, my taste buds die off, so I eat much spicier foods now. But I think you already eat much spicier stuff than me! What do you think you will you eat when you are old??? π

Lol. Well, by that time I might not be able to afford eating spicy stuff. But I might be rebellious and eat habeneros or something anyway π

My son loves anything sour tasting. Lemons, limes, etc. I always know that if I’m cutting one up to season something to save him a few slices to just eat himself. And when the restaurant brings me my tea or water with lemon, I immediately hand it over.

My son will suck on lemons. He’s happiest when I just toss a piece to him. Crazy but it makes him smile.

I love lemons too. I didn’t think about them with this post, but now with all the comments I think I like lemons for the same reason I like hot sauce. π

I do the lemons, too. I also like hot sauce, but in moderation. I also like sour patch candy–or shock-tarts. Something about that extreme flavor just makes me happy.
