People are Talking- Part 2/ Starlight Blog Award

I was nominated for a blog award a few months ago. It was actually the 4th nomination I had received that month and I never officially accepted any of them. It wasn’t that I didn’t appreciate the awards or even that I didn’t have the time to accept them. The simple truth was that I didn’t have the time to try to find others that I related to. I didn’t have the time to find blogs that I felt so excited about that I would attach their personas to my own work. But now… I do. Well, I haven’t gained any more time, but I have reached the point of excitement about the work others are doing.

I won’t be so bold as to nominate these blogs officially because they are honestly blogs that need no nomination. These blogs aren’t about making themselves known, they’re about changing the world. My blog is about blogging and living and struggling and breathing. These blogs are simply about being. Sometimes I need to step back from life and just be and that’s exactly what these blogs help me do.

Even though I may not follow the rules of nomination completely, I will respect this award by posting the full rules and answering the questions posed to me. If any of the blogs I post want to participate, I will also pose my own questions for them to answer.

The rules are:
Thank the giver and link their blog to your post.
Answer the 3 questions given to you.
Please pass the award on to 6 or more other bloggers of your choice and let them know that they have been nominated by you.
Include the logo of the award in a post or on your blog please never alter the logo and never change the rules.
This Award is created to highlight and promote Inspiring Bloggers
Nominate your 6 favorite bloggers and pass on the award!

Starlight BloggerFirst off, Bumbi’s Mom nominated me for this award. She’s been a great supporter of my blog since she first found me and I am very grateful for that and for her willingness to share my blog on her post.

The blogs that keep me awake at night with their engaging, uplifting, life-captivating messages:

Don’t Stop Sargeant

Early Returned Honor

TWLOHA

Live Through This

Cristian Mihai

Never Less Than Everything

The questions I will answer:

If you could do one thing over this week, what would it be?

I’m not sure if this is referring to something I’d like to do over to change or something I would like to relive because of the pure awesomeness of it. As far as change goes, I don’t believe in regrets or going back in time to change things. Every act brings me one step closer to who I want to be and I would not change mistakes I made because they have taught me about myself and will make me better because of them. As far as reliving awesomeness, I am currently sitting here eating chocolate and wringing my hands between typing moments because life is just hard. I have been completely uncomfortable over the last week and going from moment to moment trying to remember to breathe. But… I would relive every second of it. I would do it over and over again because life is just awesome. Even the hard times are worth reliving because there is beauty in the brokenness.

Why did you decide to start a blog?

I decided to start a blog because I wanted people to understand. Everyone in my life seemed to see what I couldn’t see and not what I did see. I wanted to let people know what I saw so that maybe I could get to the point of seeing what they saw and they would understand why it was so hard for me to get there in the first place.

Who or what inspires your creativity?

Pretty much everything- the beauty, the pain, the love, the ache, the tears, the laughs, everything that makes me stop and wonder why I am alive or how the world works or why we are human. Life inspires me.

The questions for my nominees:

What gives you courage to keep on going?

What’s the hardest thing about blogging for you?

What would you change about the world if you could?

Sisterhood of the World Blogger

This blog has been pretty depressing lately. I apologize for that and I hope it becomes happier and more hopeful in the coming weeks. To switch to a happier mood, I’ve decided to finally accept an award that’s been sitting in my draft posts for a few months.

I was nominated by Merryn at Humble Heart Scribbles here. Thank you for the nomination and sorry it took me so long to accept it.

1. What would you say are the three things which your closest friends have in common?

My closest friends are all incredibly amazing, but I guess that most people would say that of their friends. What makes them amazing to me is that they empathize with others, they always try to help, and they make me happy.

2. Describe a time in your life when you were sinking and a friend helped you up emotionally/ practically?

This is pretty much my entire life. But the one that came to mind first was a few years ago when I was struggling with suicidal thoughts and health issues. I had amazing roommates that were there for me when I really needed it and really didn’t deserve it.

3. What are your preferred love languages out of these 5 – (physical touch, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, quality time)

Quality Time- I need quality time. It’s like my life force.

4. Tell us a pearl of wisdom which will help get us through a challenging time.

I have never had a trial that I wasn’t grateful for. Life is hard and times get tough, but they make you grow and that’s what makes life worth it.

5. What would you tell someone who struggles to find purpose in life?

Life isn’t about getting through it. It’s about getting into it. If you live life trying to get through the hard stuff, you miss living in the beautiful stuff. The purpose of life for me is becoming the best me that I can be and even though trials are hard, they make me better. So if you can become more beautiful in the hard stuff, I think you’ve found your purpose.

6. What is your favourite “pick me up” tune?

I guess it’s “I Get Knocked Down” by Chumbawamba. I haven’t really listened to anything other than Christian music in about 3 years so it’s hard to think of just a regular “pick me up” song.

7. If you only had one sentence left to say, what would you say?

I love you. (Seems kind of an obvious one, but if there’s one thing I want people to remember about me, it’s that I love them.)

8. What would you do if you could go on holidays for a whole year?

Travel the world to visit every person I’ve met online

9. What is the first thing people tend to notice about your character?

Probably that I’m quiet (which really isn’t very accurate once you get to know me)

10. What is your favourite thing you did this week?

Visited with my sister and her family

blogger award

(I’m supposed to nominate people right here, but I haven’t really read many blogs in a really long time. And the blogs I do read are way out of my league to nominate. So… here’s my questions to anyone who reads this. And if you want to go ahead and accept the nomination on your blog, be my guest.)

1. What is one thing you would like to do better?

2. If you could get away with committing a crime, would you and what crime would you commit?

3. What is your favorite book and why?

4. Who is one person you wish you thanked more?

5. What would be your ideal vacation?

6. Who is your favorite person in the world and why?

7. What is one thing your parents did that you do now?

8. How long have you been blogging/ reading blogs?

9. What is your favorite instrument?

10. What is something you would say to your younger self if you had the chance?

Here are the rules for the award:

Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their site.
Put the award logo on your blog.
Answer the ten questions they have given you.
Nominate ten people.
Make up ten new questions for them to answer.

One Lovely Blog Award

Sorry, it’s taken me a while to accept this. Life has been pretty crazy over the past month.

Anyway, I was nominated for the One Lovely Blog award by teachezwell and http://lunaticpoet.com/ here and here.
Thank you to both of you! I would definitely recommend checking out their blogs. They are two amazing women with a lot of good to share with the world.

Here are the rules:

1. Thank the person who has nominated you. Provide a link to his/her blog.

2. List the rules and display the award image.

3. Include 7 facts about yourself.

4. Nominate other bloggers and let them know that they have been nominated. (one said nominate 15, the other just said nominate others, so I’m compromising.)

5. Display the award logo and follow the blogger who nominated you.

Here are 7 facts about me:

1. I have read very few books in more than one sitting. In general, if I stop reading a book to do something else, I don’t pick it back up again.

2. I absolutely love Veggietales. (And yes, I know I’m in my 20s and it’s a kids’ show.) I just love how well it tells Bible stories, plus I also just really love animated movies.

3. I am an extrovert. I love being around people, talking to people, being the leader of a group, and pretty much anything that has to do with people.

4. Even though I’m an extrovert, I think I would make a very good hermit. If I had no contact with people whatsoever, I could be perfectly happy doing things I love. But it’s an all or nothing type of thing. As soon as people were brought in the mix, I’d revert to needing them again.

5. Food is my weakness. I don’t (and can’t) overeat, but I love food. If I am cranky, give me some food and I’ll probably become happy again.

6. I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or in other words, I’m a Mormon. (This really should be the #1 fact because it’s the defining fact of my life, but people sometimes run and hide when you say that so I wanted to give some more general facts first.)

7. I love making people happy. It’s probably my favorite thing in the world. In fact, at one point in my life I was literally addicted to helping people and had to get help to get out of that addiction.

An Award

I have been thinking a lot lately about how I feel about WordPress awards and whether or not I would accept them/ do them. Well, the deciding point has come. I was nominated for a Very Inspiring Blogger award by ambient_memory.

Although I am grateful for the thought, accepting this award is a difficult thing for me.  I like the fact that these awards allow you to get to know other bloggers and do some networking in the community, but they can also be very stressful.

I consider myself to be a fairly new blogger. I have only gotten serious about blogging in the past couple of months. So I’m still getting to know fellow bloggers, which means I’m not really comfortable with socializing with them yet.

What am I getting at?

Well… if you haven’t guessed by my blog name, I have autism. Which means that some parts of communication are difficult for me. And for me, that includes online communication. I have always had a hard time starting a conversation with people and nominating someone for an award is a pretty blunt and straightforward way of starting a conversation.

Possibly the hardest part of this is that I feel like this blog is me. If one of my other blogs had been nominated, it would be relatively easy to choose other people to nominate since those blogs are simply impressions I have had. This blog though is me online. So for the people I meet through this blog, this is essentially who I am to them and as such any socializing I do through this blog is me talking to other people.

So I have decided to accept the award, but it may take me a little while to find the 15 people I would like to nominate in return.
