Today was an interesting day at work. The closest branch to us was closed for cleaning due to possible Covid exposure. That meant that all our bank traffic came to the same branch. We were able to help everyone without too much trouble, but it definitely made things interesting. It also caused some complications with social distancing since there were extra employees on the teller line. On the other hand, it was great to work with so many good employees, and it made me even more grateful for my job and my health.
I have realized that it doesn’t do me much good to come up with one good thing every day if I don’t actually do it every day, so I’m going to try to be better about posting this every night, even if it is not perfect every time.
But for now, I’ll catch up on the last few days. We have been short staffed at work since Friday. The nice thing about that is my boss has been buying us lunch, so we can have a working lunch instead of our usual hour break. On top of only having two tellers on Friday, our system failed overnight and the transaction program we use was out of service for the first half of the day. The day went surprisingly well though and aside from a couple minor setbacks, we had a pretty smooth day.
Saturday, we got another cat! I told my sister that it was fine as long as he was a garage/ outdoor cat because our indoor cat does not share space well. Then, we spent the day with friends. I bought pizza and dropped my sister off to watch movies while I went to donate plasma.
We spent a lot of time with the cat on Sunday and had some church time with my sister’s family.
Monday was another busy day at work since our assistant manager had to go home due to possible Covid exposure. I was a bit overwhelmed, but my coworkers are awesome and helped calm me down. We made cookies with the kids Monday night, and I ate quite a few cookies.
Tonight we watched a movie I had rented from Redbox since they gave me a free rental. The kids were looking forward to pumpkin painting/ carving, but we decided to do that tomorrow instead.
I got pizza for dinner on Tuesday. It has been hot lately, so no one has wanted to cook. But I got a good deal on pizza, and we even had leftovers.
I gave a tour of my basement to a young couple on Wednesday. They are getting married in a few months and decided to sign a lease agreement with me! I do not mind doing Airbnb since we make pretty good money from it, but I definitely prefer the consistency of renters.
I went over to my friend’s house yesterday for a visit. We talked and played with her little boy. I always enjoy our visits.
Today we had a movie night and watched the new Dora movie. It was a fun movie and good to relax with the family after an exhausting week at work.
Also, PSA the coin shortage is real. If you have any excess coin, please consider taking it to your bank. We ran out of coin at my branch this week and have had to turn away all our business customers. We are giving the coin away as fast as we get it, and we are not getting our weekly shipments to restock our supply. Thank you in advance from banks everywhere!
Monday we had milkshakes for dessert, and I watched a show with my sister and brother-in-law.
Yesterday I started training at my work to open new accounts. I am excited to be learning this so I can help when my manager is unavailable. It is also nice to get off work early because I do not have to do closing procedures.
Today I am getting new internet installed, so I am hoping that will be my good thing for the day.
Yesterday was a hard day. The bank was busier than normal. Our ATM machine was being updated most of the day and then stopped working after the update. I was frustrated by the situation and stressed in general. I had a breakdown at lunch when my sister told me she would be gone longer than originally planned because her flight was changed at the last minute. But my friend called at the end of the night, and I was able to catch up with her for a few minutes. We also went grocery shopping in preparation for my sister visiting this week.
My sister and her family arrived this afternoon. We got to spend some time with the kids reading and playing before putting them to bed. I am looking forward to spending some time with them this week!
It has been a couple of busy days at the bank. We have gotten out late every day and just had a lot to do. Then, I woke up at 3 a.m. this morning thinking about the federal coin shortage and how to continue serving our business customers. We have had to enforce limits on coin since our vault has been depleted. We have had a few customers bring in large amounts of coin though, which helps us continue to serve our customers. We even talked Costa Vida into bringing over their tip/coin bowl to trade for cash.
Even though it can be difficult to make sure we are able to continue serving customers, I am grateful for my coworkers. I had a meeting with my manager today, and she just expressed her gratitude for all my work. I am glad I have the team I have and the way we have been able to support each other through this.
Today was a complicated day at work. The update that went through last night made our deposit system stop working, which meant that we had to hand write receipts until another update was made to fix the problem. But my favorite coworker came back to work today, so that helped things turn out better.
I had a major headache last night. I talked to my friend for a bit, but then I had to lie down. My sister brought me some pain medicine and an ice pack. I was grateful that I fell asleep quickly and felt better this morning.
We finally got our cash machine fixed at the bank today. It has been broken for about a week, and we have stayed late every day since because of it. I am hopeful that this week will be better than last week now that it is working again.
We are going paperless tomorrow at the bank where I work! Today was my last day scanning all the work after hours and going through paperwork from last week to find checks that were skipped or misread. I know that converting over to the new system will have it’s own challenges, but I am excited for the change!
