Something Good- Day 344

I left work early today because I had some indigestion that was not going away. Wednesdays are usually slower, so I figured they would be alright without me. It was a good thing I was home because my sister had some serious neck pain, and I was able to take her to the chiropractor and help her with homework. I was also able to finally fix the toilet for our renters, which I have needed to do for about a year.

We had to relocate our garage cat temporarily because our basement renters are allergic. Luckily, one of our friends was able to take him in. He has been there for a few weeks, but we were able to stop by to see him today. I was glad to see he is doing well and has been adapting to his new environment.

Friday after work I planned to go to a friend’s house. I stopped at a gas station to order pizza so it would be ready by the time I got there. Unfortunately, I ordered from the wrong location. I was so frustrated with myself and hungry that I sat in my car and cried. I messaged a friend to help calm me down while I waited for another pizza to be made at the right location. I was grateful she was available, and I felt much better after eating and spending time with my friends.

Yesterday was a warmer day. The snow had melted off the lawn, which allowed us to rake leaves we had left on the ground before the snow. We also cleaned up the garage and finished some laundry. I was grateful to accomplish so much during the day, and then get to reward ourselves with some shopping afterwards.

We went to my friend’s house on Friday. I have not been able to spend much time with her lately because of traveling and work. Especially with so many of my coworkers being sick, I did not want to take any chances. It was nice to see her though, even with masks and social distancing.

We did a garage sale on Saturday, which was a little crazy because of the cold here. We told people to come around to the side door and made a path through the snow. Only a few people came, but we made a decent amount and got rid of some stuff we did not need. It has been nice to declutter the house a bit, even though there is still more I would like to sell. Then that night, we watched “Annie get your gun” at the local high school. They did a great job, and we were all very impressed.

Today, we were able to do home church for the first time on television. We decided not to attend in person when it started back up because my sister is very prone to catching illnesses, but they finally decided to broadcast our congregation this week. It was nice to see familiar faces on the screen and participate in a way.

Our new refrigerator was installed today. It looks amazing! It will be so nice to not have to go downstairs every time we need something cold. I am also grateful that the freezer side is much larger than the fridge we had temporarily. As two single women, we tend to use the freezer much more than the fridge because it is difficult to use fresh items before they go bad. After we made sure the fridge was at food-safe temperature, we went grocery shopping for some needed items.

We spent most of Friday afternoon getting ready for Halloween. We made candy chutes and signs for our door. Then, we watched a Halloween movie.

Our Halloween set up

Saturday morning was spent shopping for a new refrigerator. I bought one that was more expensive than originally planned but will arrive earlier and probably fill my needs more long term. I ran a few more errands afterwards, then came back home to pass out candy.

Today was a somewhat stressful day. We had new renters move in last night and realized they are allergic to cats, which is somewhat problematic since we have two cats. We had planned to keep one cat downstairs in the garage but decided we might try something different instead. We spent most of the day rearranging furniture while deciding what to do with our garage cat. We are still working on a final solution but hope it will all work out soon.

Yesterday, I came home to a complete overhaul of my garden plot. My sister and her friend had removed all the dead plants to get it ready for winter. I have wanted to work on our lawn and garden for a while now, but never feel like I have time. My sister also sold our old fridge, which stopped working a while back, to make room for a new one. We went to dinner to celebrate all her hard work so she would not have to cook.

I woke up early today and did a couple loads of laundry before heading out to donate plasma. We also did some shopping for essentials and Halloween decorations. Afterwards, we made a delicious pork roast dinner and took some to the missionaries in our area.

I had today off of work, so we got some things done around the house. I fixed a pair of pants and a shirt this morning that needed buttons sewn on and then did a couple loads of laundry. My sister washed the dishes and cleaned the stove. Then, we bought more tissues because I go through those really fast. We also went out to eat and got my sister’s birthday present. It’s still a few weeks early, but it is rare for me to have a day off to go to certain stores that close early now.

This really does not feel like my story to tell, but my sister has been struggling with pain over the last few days. After the night in the hospital, she was told to manage the pain with medicine and wait for it to get better. Yesterday, she had a friend come over “to help out” but ended up watching movies instead. Our dishes were piling up and needed to be done soon, but she was in no condition to do them. I planned to do the dishes when I got home from work, but another friend came by to bring my sister lunch and helped with our dishes before she left. I cannot express how grateful I am for the people that care for us, check in with us, and express their love and concern. It definitely means a lot, especially when we are struggling.
